ACE has an annual conference that typically lasts 24 hours and consists of nine (3x3) parallel sessions, a plenary panel discussion, and one or more keynote speeches.

The Pros and Cons of Standard Setting: Stockholm 12 November 2010

The Swedish Competition Authority's seminar "The Pros and Cons of Standard Setting" will be held in Stockholm on Friday November 12.  Antitrust issues in relation to standard setting have attracted the attention of practitioners and academics in recent years and are currently high on the agenda in view of the Commission´s review of the guidelines on horizontal agreements.


Speakers this year are Tineke M. Egyedi from Delft University of Technology, Damien Geradin from Tilburg University, Richard J. Gilbert from UC Berkeley, Anne Layne-Farrar from LECG Consulting Chicago and Klaus M. Schmidt from University of Munich. Svend Albaek from DG Competition will be the moderator of the seminar.


The presentations will be commented by senior officials at NCAs, including Peter Freeman (Competition Commission, UK), Juan Delgado (National Competition Commission, Spain), Jörg Nothdurft (Bundeskartellamt, Germany), Jan Kees Winters (Netherlands Competition Authority) and Laure Durand-Viel  (French Competition Authority).


Participation in the conference is free of charge. The conference language is English.

3rd Lisbon Conference on Competition Law and Economics

It is my pleasure to announce that the Portuguese Competition Authority (PCA) will be hosting the III Lisbon Conference on Competition Law and Economics on the 14th and 15th of January 2010, at the Gulbenkian Conference Centre in Lisbon, Portugal.


The PCA, in parallel with its enforcement activities, aims to promote a better understanding of current antitrust issues and to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on competition law and economics, building bridges between academic theory and practical application. In light of these objectives, the PCA is proud to host in this third edition of the Lisbon Conference, outstanding speakers from academia, the judiciary, competition authorities and private practice discussing recent developments and current challenges in antitrust.


This Conference is intended for public and private practitioners, members of the judiciary, academics, students and all those interested in emerging competition law and economic issues.

Pros and Cons of Competition in/by the Public Sector: Stockholm 13 Nov. 2009

The Swedish Competition Authority's seminar "The Pros and Cons of Competition in/by the Public Sector" will be held in Stockholm on Friday November 13. This year's  topic is how to tackle unfair competition by public bodies.

Speakers are Gianni de Fraja (University of Leicester), Hans W. Friederiszick (ESMT European School of Management and Technology), D. Daniel Sokol (University of Florida Levin College of Law) and Michael Steinicke (University of Southern Denmark). Mattias Ganslandt (Centre for European Law and Economics (CELEC)) will be the moderator of the seminar.

The presentations will be commented by senior officials at national CAs, including Kate Collyer (Cooperation and Competition Panel, UK), Preben Pettersson (Danish CA), Knut Eggum Johansen (Norwegian CA) and Joseph Wilson (Competition Commission of Pakistan).

Spanish ACE 2009 Conference in Madrid

The Spanish chapter of ACE will have a conference on  Tuesday 10 November 2009 at IESE Business School, Madrid and Fundación Rafael del Pino (C/ Rafael Calvo, 39, Madrid).

The programme includes three roundtables that cover behavioural economics, vertical restraints, and competition policy and state aid in the banking sector.

2009 CRESSE Summer School & Conference

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) announces the Fourth Annual Competition and Regulation European Summer School and Conference (CRESSE) which will take place at KALLISTON GRECOTEL HOTEL from the 27th of June to the 10th of July, 2009 (Conference: 3-5 July), in the seaside resort of Galatas in Chania (Crete, Greece). CRESSE brings together many of the top European economists and legal experts in Competition and Regulation, from over 25 distinguished EU Universities, as well as from law practices, authorities and economic consultancies.


The 2009 CRESSE Conference will be on "Advances in the Analysis of Competition Policy". This year's keynote speakers include Joe Harrington and Paul Klemperer.

The Austrian Competition Authority is organising a conference "Resale price maintenance - an issue for the European agenda" on 12  September 2008 in Vienna, Austria.

Conference on Competition and Regulation, Greece

The 3rd European Conference on Competition and Regulation is held on 4-5 July 2008 at the Hotel Plaza Resort, Anavyssos, Greece. The topic of the conference is "Competition Policy: Procedures, Institutions, IPRs". Kenote speakers are Prof. William Kovacic (FTC) and Prof. Richard Schmalensee (MIT). The Conference Selection Committee consists of Prof. Yannis Katsoulacos, Athens University of Economics and Business; Massimo Motta, European University Institute and Università di Bologna; Patrick Rey, Université de Toulouse; and David Ulph, University of St. Andrews.

OFT/ACE Evening Economics Seminar: The Relationship between Consumers and Competition

Amelia Fletcher, Chief Economist of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), would like to invite you to an evening economics seminar on Tuesday 22 April. The seminar is being held jointly with the Association of Competition Economics (ACE).
